Nostalgia

I have just returned residence amazing after a wonder 6 several weeks in China. My work [I was not just a tourist!] to me from Hong Kong to Macau, Guangzhou, Beijing, Yanji, Jilin, Shenyang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan – back again to Guangzhou and home.

From the moment in time I began toward the moment in time I flew away from China, the information just swept me along and I relished every solo moment in time of it. In other Chapters I wish to describe the trip in much more detail. This just an overview.

Round and About in Hong Kong

It often baffles me how easily the transition was made from British to Chinese rule in this island city. Perhaps the people there will not fully agree with me, but during my recent visit lt seemed to be life and business as usual.

HK is actually a very special place, belonging as it does to a country which boasts of being ‘one state, two systems of givernment.’ Little things stand out in my memory. One of the surprises was the seemingly endless escalator from the lower to the middle levels of HK proper. It operates downwards in the morning and upwards in the evening. What a charming and delightful way to move up or down across many streets! One can survey shop windows endlessly as one is carried gracefully along.

Heroes of the Past

Normally 1 associates extended and adventurous sea voyages using the colonising nations of western Europe. The believed that China may possess a hero on the higher seas does not spring readily to mind. Yet, it is emerging that China do certainly give delivery to some most remarkable hero in Zheng He. not merely was he amid the top voyagers, he was also among the first, running as he do among 1405-1433, that is, throughout the Ming Dynasty.

Savouring the Capital

Beijing is like most other capitals in the world – big, showy, crowded, official. Like others, she has lovely buildings, wide streets, centres of culture, shopping malls, eating places. And on my first visit, in 2009, that is pretty much all I saw. But when I returned there in 2010, it was very different. The friends I had made on the firts visit, were there in all their strength to welcome me. From the moment I arrived till i left some days later, these fine friends shepherded me around. I saw the same things as before, but through their eyes. I was more relaxed in their company and was able to savour the changing moments. An ice-cream here, a soft drink there, a relaxed hour somewhere else – all were special moments ot be captures in photo and taken away for future reference.
