Travelogue of the Humble Administrator’s Garden in Suzhou

December 15, 2009

Yesterday I went on a package tour to Suzhou as a reward for my hard work last month. It turned out to be quite an exciting and educative journey.

We started our trip early in the morning and arrived at the destination -the Humble Administrator’s Garden at 9:00.

The Humble Administrator’s Garden is regarded as one of the four most famous gardens in China, and it also represents the gardening style of the Yangtze River Delta. The garden was inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in December, 1997. After these brief introductions made by the tour guide, we couldn’t wait but to ask “Why was it named so?” The tour guide told us since the garden was built by a disappointed official called Wang Xiancheng, who tried to convey his intension to retire from the bureaucratic jungle through the name. He got lots of help from Wen Zhengming, one of the four most talented scholars at that time, when building the garden. All their great efforts made the garden a masterpiece in Chinese classic gardening for its well-spaced building, clear water, elaborate artificial rockwork, and various elegant plants.

Covering an area of 4 hectares, the garden is divided into four sections: the eastern, central, western and the southern parts, of which I love the central section the most. There you can find a winding pond of peaceful water and many ancient cypresses standing near the bank. Opposite is the Hall of Distant Fragrance (“Yuanxiangtang “).Its unique beauty attracted me to linger in it for a really long time.

I also found many couplets on the pillars with impressive calligraphy on in the garden. It’s a nice place to go to know the classic gardening of China. I learnt a lot about both architectural aesthetics and traditional Taoism culture from this trip. It’s really a place worthy of visiting.

Travel During a Recession – It’s the Best Time to Vacation

December 14, 2009

Most people think that to travel during a recession is a bad idea. They get worried about the money they will be spending, instead of saving, for rough times. However, contrary to popular belief, the best time to vacation is actually during a recession.

When economic times are tough people hold off on spending. This causes many businesses to become stressed. Competition becomes fierce among competing businesses whom often get caught in a price war – whoever offers the lowest price gets the few customers available.

This creates ample opportunities for the traveler to travel cheaper than ever. Airlines drastically lower their prices, hotels continuously promote special deals on room rates, restaurant prices drop, entrance fees to many attractions are reduced and even expensive vacation packages get their prices slashed.

The person who keeps their eyes open to opportunities may realize that in most cases it is actually cheaper to travel the world than to stay at home. Many people take the opportunity of a recession to travel the world. They will grab their savings and go! Whether they have lost their job, or are at the risk of losing their job, they take matters into their own hands and live their dreams.

When one knows a few savvy tricks, world travel only costs $1,000 a month or less, and that is without sacrificing any fun. During a recession, with travel costs at rock bottom prices, the traveler can do and see a lot more than would usually be possible.

Money doesn’t disappear. Money moves. That is another benefit of travel during a recession. You can go where the money goes and find ample opportunities for employment while traveling in foreign countries.

Instead of letting a recession take control of you, take control of the opportunity it presents and do what you have always wanted to do while prices are dirt cheap!

There are many ways to travel the world for an average of only $1,000 a month or less.

You can even get free accommodation, tours, food, transportation, internet services – you name it, for free. There are very simple ways to get yourself and a companion booked on luxurious, all expenses paid vacations.

Perhaps the best part is that you can make money, a residual income, while you travel. The more fun you have, the more money you can earn.

My travel plans

December 7, 2009

Recently I have plans to travel to shanghai in 2010, and I would like to share some information about Shanghai.

Shanghai in the center of China’s eastern coastline is one of China’s cultural centers and has a long history as a trading port and gateway for foreigners entering China. It is the gateway to the Yangtze River delta. It is a municipality under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government and the largest economic and trade center in China.

China‘s biggest and most prosperous city oozes an atmosphere of vitality and a dynamic which can rival New York in the United States and Paris of France in terms of modernity.
