Yellow Mountain tour 2009

December 16, 2009

Maybe it was stupid. While tourists, both Western and China called the funicular tram literally Yunguyo Huangshan (Yellow Mountain), we begin our trek to the White Goose Ridge plateau at the top of the tourist area, about 700 m (2300)’s feet steep stairs above us. This eastern range is the easiest way to UNESCO-mess around steep peaks and improvement of over 50 miles of walking up and down is. The roads are mostly stone steps, sometimes even a wide and sometimes narrow, and much closer to a ladder as a staircase.

Even with the bags is not too difficult to climb, at least initially, but that does not mean isnta sweaty, steep and strenuous hike. We have moved from the load of tourists smiling here, but almost none. But not alone, trudging up the stairs. Men with large loads of clothes in white bags on both ends of the bamboo bar, their backs are exposed to almost the stairs toward us. Are skeptical, though the majority of men lifting heavy steel cylinders happened, perhaps full of propane, while the people themselves, on their shoulders and up the hill.

At the start of the walk up the stairs too steep Arent.
Too bad that this section will not be passed.

The bottles are on their shoulders through a bamboo tube and a rope to the balance of the bottle in the case of the station uses a balance of rest. Few use a pressure vest with the hotel seems to work well on shirts or bare chests, and many have adopted the army green shoes on their feet. Some have used dress shoes. These arent all new, but most are very friendly and scope to respond to our greetings Ni Hao.

Head of four different-Chinese stars are available. Not cheap for anyones standards, and are not well measured either remained at a significantly reduced quality of two and three stars I have elsewhere in China. There is no other way, and everything is expensive in the mountains. Many who see the body of the application of these strains to understand. Everything must be done to understand, to explain.

Moreover, everyone has forgotten, are easy to carry the elevator up here is not breaking a sweat. There are several mountain railways around the mountain, and they do not take tourists at night. Hotel Couldnt contract with them to support the needs of the hill; Couldnt build its own cable car? The obvious conclusion is that human labor cheaper than the cable car.

Apart from that seems possible. There are probably hundreds of managers and even down the hill every day.
Maybe more. Many of them live in safety Tangkou and other villages in the foothills of the mountain. I was already on the surface in a small shop on the ground in the water to rise. There seems to be a tourist trap of the grocery store and the prices were similar, or perhaps a little cheaper than I’ve seen in Shanghai or elsewhere in China. Of course, I do not really know the true cost of living in a village in China, but certainly more than a few dollars a day. If men are so cheap, not how to survive and raise their families in the villages below? This isnta very rural part of China and the heating costs alone would be the bank of life of many poor families on low wages to break, but the houses and apartments, while small, is almost dirt-floor huts . It only seems to be a way to pay these people enough to eat, and still is cheaper than loading the cable car a few times a day.

I also heard that the Chinese government subsidizes many jobs in an effort to ensure that its citizens in gainful employment, failing to meet their leaders conspiracies, destruction of the authorities. Plausible explanation, but it is unclear how sustainable it is. For now, facing the decline of the attack, men tend to be paid to each load and damage to the body is clear. Not the cost of all necessary medical care is not so obvious, China is still unresolved health problems.

Almost as interesting as the sights, China is always with this type of economic puzzle. If these people are subsidized by the government? It’s really cheaper in the short term to pay hundreds of workers at idle and cars? What is this? I never got a satisfactory answer. If you have a better idea, discuss it here!
